What is PVDC?
PVDC, scientific name "polyvinylidene chloride", is a thermoplastic polymer with a softening temperature of 160~200 °C, with a linear polymer chain structure connected head to tail, symmetrical molecular structure and high crystallinity. For PVDC, due to its strong intermolecular cohesion and high crystallinity, the chlorine atom in the PVDC molecule is hydrophobic and does not form hydrogen bonds. Oxygen and moisture barrier properties, and its oxygen barrier properties are not affected by ambient humidity. That is to say, under any temperature or humidity conditions, PDVC has excellent ability to block water vapor, oxygen, odor and fragrance, currently recognized as the best plastic packaging material with comprehensive performance in terms of barrier properties.
Characters of PVDC
Polyvinyl chloride/polyvinylidene chloride (PVC/PVDC) pharmaceutical composite rigid films are used for blister packaging of solid medicines (tablets, capsules). Compared with PVC film, PVC/PVDC pharmaceutical composite rigid film has high moisture barrier and oxygen barrier properties, as references in Table-1.

PVDC with Pharmacy Packaging
As a pharmaceutical high-barrier packaging material, PVDC coating composite material is most used for making pharmaceutical blister packaging, granules and powder composite packaging bags. The mechanical and certain physical properties of the coating material are determined by the base materials. Meanwhile, the barrier performance, fragrance retention, and oil resistance are determined by the coating layer. To find an appropriate package material, the procurement person only need to figure out what you want to pack, and under what kind of circumstance. The base material used in blister packaging is PVC sheet, and the base material used in composite packaging bags for granules and powders is BOPET or BOPP film.
